Frits Lugt was preparing his book on collector's marks when he and Zigrosser began corresponding. Lugt's letters ask questions about prominent American collectors. There are no letters between 1922 and 1957, when Lugt's book was reissued. In 1964, Carl Zigrosser and other friends prepared an album of letters in honor of Lugt's 80th birthday. Later letters record the exchange of their books.
